RAKTAMOKSHANA THERAPY

Raktamokshan, also known as bloodletting therapy, is an ancient Ayurvedic and traditional healing practice involving the removal of a small amount of blood to balance body energies and improve health. It is used for specific conditions, especially those related to blood and skin disorders.

How Raktamokshan (Bloodletting) Is Performed

Preparation:

The patient undergoes a thorough consultation and diagnostic assessment.

The practitioner ensures the patient is healthy enough for bloodletting.

The area to be treated (commonly the arm, forehead, or ear) is cleaned and sanitized.

Procedure:

Selection of Site:

The site is chosen based on the condition, often involving superficial veins.

Pricking or Scarification:

Small, superficial pricks or cuts are made using sterile instruments such as a lancet or a small blade.

The amount of blood to be taken varies depending on the condition and area.

Blood Collection:

Blood flows out through the small cuts or pricks.

The practitioner may use a small cup, vessel, or container to collect the blood.

Control and Healing:

After the required amount is drained, the area is cleaned.

Usually, a mild dressing is applied to prevent infection and promote healing.

Types of RAKTAMOKSHAN

Siravedhana (Venesection):

Blood is taken from superficial veins (e.g., arm veins).

Alabu Raktamokshan:

Blood is taken from specific superficial points or acupressure points.

Rakta Pindaprasad:

Involves scarification of specific sites to balance the blood and doshas.

Leech therapy (Jalauka or Hirudotherapy):

Uses medicinal leeches to extract blood, often for vascular and skin conditions.
